TOYS & READING

Today’s topic came to mind as I was listening to Olivia Cunning’s Backstage Pass. As you know, I’ve recently become addicted to audiobooks and let me tell you, the narrator for this series is totally awesome. Justine O. Keef has a way of making the smokin’ hot love scenes that Ms. Cunning writes simply come to life. I know, you’re still wondering what this has to do with my topic: Toys & Reading.

Well you see, Brian loves to play with toys and there is one scene where he uses a cock ring that vibrates for Myrna and it was hot enough to make your panties melt. If you haven’t read or listened to Backstage Pass, you are definitely missing out. Do you see where I’m going with this? Not yet. Well, here’s the deal! More and more authors are incorporating sex toys into their stories, which in my opinion is only making the stories and sex scenes hotter, so I did a little research. Now do you see where I’m going??? LOL!

As erotic novels continue to grow in popularity, many readers are finding that they are not just a great way to pass the time, they also serve as a wonderful aphrodisiac. Whether you’re partnered up or not, erotic romance novels can help kick start your sex life and inspire sexual creativity. But as it turns out, you’re going to need a few aids to help you out with all of this newfound creativity and desire. Check out this list of toys that can ride alongside your book.

Toys that are great if you’re riding solo:

Vibrator:

As the most popular selling sex toy, a vibrator is a great choice. You can opt for a bullet if you like something that is small and slightly more discrete. You can go for the ever popular Rabbit vibrator, or even for the gold and get a g-spot vibrator to fulfill all of your g-spot orgasm needs. Vibrators are great for solo and partner play and are the surest way to ensure your needs are met.

Ben Wa Balls:

These versatile little balls are great for getting you off, for exercising with and for even pairing with someone else. Glass, metal and silicone ben wa balls range in size and can be found attached or separated. Attached balls are the way to go if you’re nervous about getting one “lost” up there. :) They will be strung together and once put in place will hang out like a tampon for easy removal. The attached ones are great for working your PC muscles and getting yourself turned on. Go for the detached if you want to be able to rock yourself to orgasm or to couple it with someone else.

Every time I here the words Ben Wa Balls, I think of Samatha from Sex and the City. :) Okay, moving right along. Just so we don’t leave the couples out, here’s a few suggestions for you to try out with your significant other. :)

Partnered up? These toys will be a great accompaniment.

A bondage kit:

Thanks to Fifty Shades of Grey, interest in and the acceptance of bondage has gone way up. Get down with a little domination by getting a complete bondage kit from Adam and Eve or hand select a few items like a whip, blind fold, bondage tape or an under the bed restraint system. As always, when dabbling in BDSM, be sure to have open communication with your partner, use a safe word and understand how to use the toys correctly.

A cock ring:

Want to involve a toy that is a little less in your face, but can still make all the difference in your love making? If so, a cock ring is definitely the way to go. Have your partner slip one of these on, turn it on and then go to town. A cock ring can help him stay harder for longer and the vibrations can help you get off.

This was so hot in Backstage Pass. This scene is going to totally blow your mind.

Anal beads:

If you’ve been thinking about trying anal sex, but weren’t sure how to really go about it, anal beads might be a good choice for you. To use, you’re going to need to relax and a lot of lube. Have your partner take their time and insert one at a time very slowly. Anal beads can help you get used to the feeling and can be very erotic. Be sure to thoroughly wash them after every use.

So, what do you guys think of the suggestions? Do they look intresting, have some of you already tried a few and increased the kink level in your bedroom while making your reading more enjoyable the way Ms. Cunning did in Backstage Pass? :)

While those questions were designed to make you ponder over the topic, here’s my contest question: What toys have you read in books that have made your reading more enjoyable? Or should I say, got you all hot and bothered? :)

OPEN MARRIAGES

I actually stumbled across today’s Inquiring Minds topic, which made me go hmmm! Really????

But before I get started, let me stress the fact that the Dear Abby letter below is not the property of Blackraven’s Erotic Cafe, but instead was posted in Yahoo! News and titled Sister In Open Marriage Takes Sharing Too Far.

I found this letter interesting because this is exactly what we read about in erotic romance. I mean how often have we read a menage story where the brothers share the woman. Why would it be any different with sisters sharing a man? The mom is old school and has a different perspective than her daughters obviously, but who’s to say if they are both right, wrong, or have to simply agree to disagree in this situation.

With that said, what I’d like for you to do is read the letter and Dear Abby’s response and tell me what you think about the situation. Would you share your husband with your sister?

DEAR ABBY: My daughters are attractive young women, both doing well in their professional careers. “Melanie,” who is 27, is married to “Sam,” an extremely attractive and successful man.

My 30-year-old daughter, “Alicia,” has been divorced for a year. Her marriage failed two years ago because she and her husband had an appetite for sex outside their marriage. While I was disturbed about that, I was horrified to learn that Melanie allows her sister to occasionally have sex with Sam.

Melanie’s argument is that Sam is less likely to cheat given this situation. When I asked her and Sam about it, he said it wasn’t his idea. My current husband says any man who would refuse this “set-up” would be nuts. Alicia claims she “doesn’t have time” to date right now, and after she finishes her MBA, she’ll seek out a more normal relationship.

I am distraught about this mess. Melanie says she wants to start a family soon. She says she loves Sam, who can “handle everything,” and she enjoys seeing “everyone happy.” She says Alicia won’t sleep around now and, maybe, one day she’ll marry a handsome man like Sam who will “return the favor”!

I can’t believe these girls are my daughters. Should I continue to protest or let it go? Is this relaxed attitude about sex prevalent in young people today? I cannot understand Melanie’s lack of desire to defend her turf. — HEARTBROKEN MOM IN FLORIDA

DEAR MOM: Your daughters appear to be into the concept of open marriage. Clearly, they do not view marriage and relationships the same way you do.

Melanie is naive to think that encouraging Sam to have a sexual relationship with her sister will discourage him from seeking other partners. Far from it. And as for her wanting to start a family, has she considered what will happen if her husband impregnates Alicia at the same time — or first?

But back to your question: Are you right to protest? You certainly are. That’s what mothers are for — to inject a dose of sanity when everyone around her is losing theirs.

Sex and Weight Gain!

Sex and Weight Gain – two terms that should never meet in the same sentence. LOL! Have I grabbed your attention yet?

Over the years as we get older, we have a tendency to put on weight, often more than we like. I was recently watching a morning show where couples were talking about how one partner gained weight, but the other didn’t and not only did it affect their relationship emotionally, but also physically in the bedroom. The interviewer and the couple went on to discuss how the wife had issues by not feeling as sexy and it was a touchy subject because he was basically damned if he did and damned if he didn’t, so they struggled with the situation. Another couple decided to work together to help the other one lose the weight through positive encouragement and now they’re relationship is better on an emotional as well as a physical level.

So, what do you think? If one partner gains weight, does it have to affect their sex life? If so and you’ve either experienced that situation or know of someone who has, how did they handle it. No names required, just the situation.

According to statistics, this happens to everyone at some point in their relationship/lives…the feeling of inadequacy…that their not good enough for their partner…

How do we handle this ladies and gents? I mean we read hot romance novels, so what do you suggest we do to keep it interesting in the bedroom regardless of the weight gain, especially if the weight gain is due to some type of health issue or medication?

Answer any one of the questions that I’ve posed in this post and you have a chance at the goodies shown below.

Inquiring Minds Winner: Maya Banks’ Passion & Pregnancy Series

How many books do you buy?

This week Inquiring Minds Want To Know topic is based on a question that Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer asked followers on her site and I must admit that it got me to thinking about how many books I actually buy in a year and how I justify all of the purchases, because believe you me, there are a lot of purchases.

When I really began pondering the question, I discovered that I buy books for many different reasons, which of course result in a large volume of purchases throughout the year. Yes, I own several review sites and we get a huge volume of books free, but the ones that I purchase fall into the following categories: for personal enjoyment, for contests, for blog hops and sometimes to review. And, I must admit that I do justify every purchase in my mind. For example, it’s a series and I must know what happens next or I’ll just die – metaphorically speaking. :)

While Kimba decided that she wouldn’t go back and tally up her purchases, I agreed totally, but I can tell you that I do know the amount because I write them off for my business at the end of the year when I’m doing my taxes. Would I or should I change my spending habits or create a budget? I think a budget might help, but I must admit that a lot of my purchases are on impulse. I could try to be more methodical about it, but where’s the fun in that. The one thing I can tell you is that I never spend more than I have to where I would be put in a bad financial situation. However, I do try to balance better what I purchase because I’m now lusting after audio books and some of those are more expensive than e-books, which is what led to my quest to find a service that was basically the Netflix of audio books. :)

I’m a book whore, but there are worse things that a person could be addicted to. My reading addiction isn’t hurting anyone and it does bring me immense pleasure as well as some of you who have won books on our sites. So, I look at it from the perspective that we’re providing a valuable service to all of the book whores in the world. Someone has to do it.

With that said…I pose the same question to you that Kimba posed to her readers: How many books do you buy in a year? Do you find yourself going overboard? Do you have a book budget? Will you continue to buy the books that you love, damn the consequences?

Just answer one or all of the questions and you’ll be entered to win the following books. Yes, I’ve bought books to give away. :)

Inquiring Minds Winners…

Audiobooks!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to do an inquiring minds, so I thought today I would write about something that’s been bugging me a bit and that involves audiobooks. Yes, that’s right! Audiobooks!

I recently discovered that I love listening to audiobooks. My boss actually hooked me on them and they’re great considering that I drive 45 minutes to an hour one way each day just to get to work. So, as you can see, I spend a lot of time on the road. I’m not a big fan of the radio, in fact, most of the time it’s just noise, so I either listen to some CDs and now audiobooks.

Well, recently I found a site called Audiobooks.com and they claim to be the Netflix of audiobooks, which excited me to no end after I saw their collection of audiobooks. Basically, for $30.00 per month, you can listen to as many audiobooks as you’d like because it’s unlimited. Sounds great, right!

Well, like most print books, I’m found that I’m a voracious listener and given the cost of most audiobooks, I thought $30.00 was a steal. No, I don’t get to keep the audiobooks, but I do get to listen to them, so I was good with that.

You’re probably asking yourself, what’s the problem then Blackraven? Well, I quickly found out that if I listen to too many books, even though it’s unlimited listening, they have a computer system that will think you’re not a human and lock you out. Guess what? That’s exactly what happen to me. So, I call the company and confirm that I truly do exist and asked them to unlock my account.

This is where it gets good. They tell me that once an account is locked by the computer system, there is nothing that they can do. They can’t override. Therefore, I asked if there was a limit on the number of books that I could listen to and might have missed on the website and she tells me no. My next question is how many books can I listen to before the computer locks me out and she tells me it’s set at 8 audiobooks. I asked why this wasn’t on their site. She then informed me that they were working on it because they’ve had other complaints and I wasn’t the first person that the computer had locked out. Basically, I was being punished for actually using my subscription and listening to the books. Wow! Right???? I even suggested that they change their website because I felt as though it was false advertisement.

In the end, they gave me half my money back and I moved on. But I had to write about my situation because even though it’s been a couple of weeks since this happened to me, I still feel as though I have a bad taste in my mouth.

So, what do you think? Give me your opinion and I’ll buy a couple of lucky winners the following books:
